Intuniv (Guanfacine) is used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). It is used as part of a total treatment plan including educational, psychological, and social measures. This medication is used alone or in combination with other ADHD drugs. It may help lessen ADHD symptoms such as being:

- Disruptive
- Impulsive
- Hyperactive
- Arguing with adults
- Losing one’s temper

How does Intuniv (Guanfacine) work?
Intuniv (Guanfacine) selectively stimulates central alpha-adrenergic receptors. It results in an inhibition of sympathetic vasomotor centers. In which it contributes predominantly to the hypotensive effects of the medication. A central effect of this drug leads to reduced peripheral sympathetic nerve impulses. It is from the vasomotor center to the blood vessels and heart.
This results in reduced peripheral vascular resistance. It also decreases heart rate. The stimulation of this drug may also contribute to hypotensive effects.
Why use Intuniv (Guanfacine)?
Intuniv contains an active ingredient of Guanfacine. It is a centrally-acting and alpha-adrenergic receptor agonist. This product is supplied as tablets for oral administration. Each tablet has the strengths of 1 mg, 2 mg, 3 mg, and 4 mg. In the year 1986, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved this medication.
How to use Intuniv (Guanfacine)?
Intuniv Tablet is to be taken by mouth with a full glass of water. It is usually taken once a day in the morning or evening. You may take it with or without a meal. Do not take each dose with a high-fat meal. It may increase the amount of you absorb and leads to an increased risk of side effects.
The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to it. Remember to take each dose at the same way and time each day. Take it exactly as it is prescribed.
