Denavir (Penciclovir) Cream

General Information

Denavir (Penciclovir) Cream is used to treat cold sores caused by the herpes simplex virus. This is used on the lips and faces of adults. This cream can speed up healing of the sores and decrease symptoms like burning, pain, and itching.

This medication does not cure herpes and it will not prevent from passing the infection to someone else. This will also not prevent future occurrences.

How does Denavir (Penciclovir) Cream work?

Denavir (Penciclovir) selectively prevents viral DNA polymerase by opposing with deoxyguanosine triphosphate. Inhibition of DNA synthesis of virus-infected cells prevents viral reproduction. In cells not infected with herpes simplex virus, DNA synthesis is unchanged. Resistant mutants of herpes simplex virus can occur from qualitative changes in DNA polymerase or viral thymidine kinase. The most usually encountered acyclovir-resistant mutants that are deficient in viral thymidine kinase are also resistant to Penciclovir.

Denavir (Penciclovir) stops the growth and development of the virus.
