Candesartan Cilexetil

Where is Candesartan Cilexetil used?

Candesartan Cilexetil is a medication used for the treatment of hypertension. Controlling hypertension helps prevent heart attacks, strokes, and kidney complications.

This may also be used for the treatment of heart failure. This medicine is not given to children younger than 1 year. It is due to an increased risk of side effects.

Candesartan Cilexetil is a type of medication called angiotensin II receptor antagonist or blocker. This medication has two active ingredients; a diuretic hydrochlorothiazide and angiotensin II receptor. This is available for oral use as tablets containing 4 mg, 16 mg, and 32 mg of Candesartan Cilexetil. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved this treatment.

How does Candesartan Cilexetil work?

Candesartan Cilexetilworks by widening the blood vessels so that the heart does not have to pump as hard to move the blood around the body. This also means that when you put more demands on your heart, the heart may manage it better so you may not get short of breath as easily.

In hypertension, this medication causes a dose-dependent and long-lasting reduction in arterial blood pressure. The antihypertensive act is because of reduced systemic peripheral resistance and stroke volume, while cardiac output and heart rate are not affected. There is no sign of severe or exaggerated first dosage hypotension or rebound effect after interruption of treatment.

How is Candesartan Cilexetil taken?

The recommended dosage and dosing schedule will depend on your condition and response. This medication is usually taken one 8 mg or one 16 mg daily. Sometimes an increased dose is given with 32 mg once daily. Take it at the same time each day. You may take it with or without food.

For high blood pressure, it may take up to 6 weeks before you get the full benefit of this medicine. Use this medication regularly to get the most benefit from it. To help you remember, take it at the same time each day. Even if you feel well keep taking this medication. Most people with high blood pressure do not feel sick.

Tell your doctor if your condition worsens or does not improve or if it does not improve.
