General Information

Benicar (Olmesartan Medoxomil) Tablet is used for the treatment of hypertension or high blood pressure. Lowering high blood pressure helps to avoid heart attacks strokes and kidney problems. This can be used alone or in combination with other medications used to treat high blood pressure.

 

How does Benicar (Olmesartan Medoxomil) Tablet work?

Benicar Tablets contains Olmesartan. It is an angiotensin II receptor antagonist. This medication belongs to the class of treatment known as angiotensin II receptor blockers.  It works by relaxing the blood vessels so that blood can flow more easily.

When blood pressure is allowed to stay high for a long time, the blood vessels of the heart, brain, and kidneys may become damaged. This puts a person at increased risk for stroke and heart attack as well as blindness and kidney failure. Keeping blood pressure in the normal range can lessen the risk for these conditions.

 

Why use Benicar (Olmesartan Medoxomil) Tablet?

Benicar (Olmesartan Medoxomil) keeps blood vessels from narrowing, which lowers blood pressure and improves blood flow. This is a prodrug, is hydrolyzed to Olmesartan during absorption from the gastrointestinal tract. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved this treatment.

 

How to use Benicar (Olmesartan Medoxomil) Tablet?

For adult patients, the recommended starting dose is 20mg once a day. If your blood pressure remains too high, your doctor may increase the dose to 40mg daily.

For pediatric patients between 6 and 16 years old, the usual dose depends on their weight. Children weighing between 20kg to less than 35kg should receive 10mg up until the maximum of 20mg once a day. For those who weigh more than 35kg is 20mg once daily.

You may take this medication with or without food. Take this as directed by your doctor. Do not change the way that you are taking this without consulting.
